2-Dimensional Art

The North Thompson is home to a vibrant community of skilled and talented Artists working in every medium and style. In part, it may be that this area inspires creativity with its endless source of inspiration. Numerous artists working in drawing, watercolour, mixed media, acrylic and oil painting choose to showcase their abilities in local venues, private art studios and galleries, and various outdoor markets, such as the farmer’s market and summer stage performances. Annual exhibitions and special events hosted by the North Thompson Arts Council provide regular opportunities to feature our local artists. It is often possible to catch a live demonstration or watch an artist work at these venues. Private lessons are even available from some local practicing painters through their studios.

3-Dimensional Art

The North Thompson Valley produces all kinds of creative sculptural art, from carving & woodworking to ceramics and even natural sculptures. As is often the case, many artists quietly work on their sculptural trades in their home studios and even the woods, creating nature-based sculptures made from found materials in the landscape. With the recently opened Men’s Shed in Clearwater, many carvers and woodworkers now have a space to get together and share their skills and projects.

Fibre Arts

A tight-knit group of fibre artists meets weekly when possible, rotating between private homes. This group shares their skills, resources and ideas in fibre art techniques such as wool processing, weaving, knitting, spinning and felting. Many other fibre artists are currently working independently and in different groups in the North Thompson Valley.

Photography & Videography

The natural beauty of the North Thompson and Wells Gray Park inspires photographers of all skill levels to take out their cameras. Photographic artists regularly participate in the NTAC art shows and sell their finished prints. The area is also home to several photographers and videographers for hire. We encourage any local photographers to join the NTAC, in part to gain the benefit of a listing in the Artist Directory or to apply if you are already a member. Members will receive instructions on how to apply for their listing.
