Annette Verge

My husband and I recently moved back to Clearwater from Fernie BC after 40 years. Clearwater has always had everything we need to retire ,enjoy the outdoors and paint!! I was a member of the Fernie Art Council for a number of years, participating in many classes and exhibitions.

Sketching, watercolour and acrylic are my main go to’s but I’ve tried other arts such as pottery and scuplting.

The most influential class I took was a three week study in watercolor with Linda Cameron from Vancouver. Now as a member of the NTAC I wish to share in the joy of all the amazing artists we have in our community.

I hope you enjoy my mix of watercolors and acylics landscapes.

Teresa Selbee-Baker Studio

Teresa Selbee-Baker is an early career oil painter, who often practices photography. Her paintings are intimately connected to her lived experiences. Spending the first half of her life in the interior of British Columbia Canada, Selbee-Baker found herself off the west coast on a remote off-grid island creating a smaller intentional life and artworks after a ten year gap in her artistic career raising her family.

Selbee-Baker attended Thompson Rivers University where she attained Bachelor of Fine Art. As a painter and photographer Selbee-Baker has participated in over a dozen group exhibitions, a handful of commission pieces and three solo shows. Selbee-Baker’s work has been printed in Artist Talk magazine and Suboart Magazine, as well as local newspaper articles and Selbee-Baker was interviewed by CBC Radio One’s North by Northwest program.

Selbee-Baker continues to develop figure painting, composition and colour studies inspired by the exploration of reflections, connections to female identity, memory and from Savary Island where she resides with her husband.

Shannon Dana

Shannon Dana is an acrylic artist from Birch Island, British Columbia. With her bold use of colour, Shannon seeks to depict the “Magic of Light” in her paintings.

“I paint the things that make me happy. In a world that can sometimes feel sad, or perhaps chaotic, we often seek things that bring us joy and peace. Thank goodness for sunshine; for the light! Where there is light, there is hope! Where there is hope, there is peace!”

Shannon is primarily a landscape painter and will often pack up her paints and head outdoors to paint “en plein air”. She has a passion for travel and adventure and loves to be out exploring the Canadian landscape with her husband, Stephen, and adult children, Cody and Jesse. She has ventured across Canada, from coast to coast to coast, and is grateful to have experienced the overwhelming beauty of the land she calls, “Home.”

Originally self-taught in oils, Shannon has recently made the switch to acrylic paints and is expanding her knowledge of the medium as a student at Acrylic University. She is currently studying under the teachings of artists Jed Dorsey and Dianna Shyne as well as guest instructors, including Aimee Erickson, Brian Buckrell, and Randy Hayashi.

“The world is so full of light and love and beauty! In my lifetime, I cannot possibly capture it all onto canvas; but that certainly won’t keep me from trying!”

Eileen Bell

Eileen has been wax painting as a hobby for fifteen years. She has published a poetry book which includes her wax art.

Encaustic literally means ‘to burn into’. Hot wax is applied to a surface with a small iron. All artwork displayed on this directory page is encaustic. However, two of the later paintings are mixed media. Acrylic is used for the background and some detail work and water colour pastels are used minimally.

Doris Laner

Doris Laner grew up Vancouver, yet always knew that city life would not suit her for long.  Raised in a supportive family, she developed her skills and talents from an early age.  After studying Art Education at U.B.C., she furthered her artistic experience by attending the Vancouver School of Art.  In 1979 she moved to Clearwater B.C., fulfilling her dream of living in a rural community.

Doris has worked continuously to develop her techniques and style.  She also has had a wide range of subjects and mediums over the years.  Portraiture, still-life, landscape, even several years of exploring ‘Western Art’ have all been inspiring to her.  The western themes came quite naturally as Doris has been involved with horses and riding all her life.  In 1985 she won ‘Best of Show’ at the Calgary Stampede Art Show.

The most recent subjects of her work revolve around the wilderness of Wells Gray Park where she lives.  Here, Doris has immersed herself in the surroundings of this special place.   Through her work she hopes to invite contemplation through a reverent and humble approach to her subjects.

Doris has been an active volunteer for the North Thompson Arts Council and has always encouraged all to participate and share in any creative endeavour.

Special projects include 6 murals and the illustration of 2 children’s books.  Doris has also had several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows. Recently, she was chosen to design and paint two murals for the B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
