Purple Flags
The Purple Flag Project
Be on the lookout for the Purple flags that will mark the locations of the various private studios, events and shops that offer original creations from local Artisans.
The NTAC will develop a printed brochure with a studio guide to provide a map of each location with an overview of the work offered. The brochure will include contact and website information for the studios and shops and opening hours or appointment-only requests.
Other special events, such as concerts, festivals and the Annual Art Crawl, can also use the brochures. The Art Crawl is a self-guided tour of participating artisan studios and shops that enables people a personal insight into the diverse talents hidden in our community.
The North Thompson Arts Council would like to thank the District of Clearwater for their generous grant that will help cover expenses for this exciting project. This project helps bring greater awareness to the local Arts Community.
Please consider being part of the Purple Flag Project. There is no charge to participate as a member of the Arts Council. All that is required is to register and provide the information needed. Flags will be provided, but not hanging or flag poles. The purple flags are available to borrow for other special events.
The North Thompson Arts Council hopes you consider taking part in this opportunity to bring awareness of your creativity and share it with the community and visitors.
Art Walk
After being unable to hold the Art Crawl and other NTAC events due to the pandemic, June Haring proposed having an outdoor Art Walk instead. The NTAC held the first Art Walk July 29 – August 1, 2022, outside the Wells Gray Info Centre in Clearwater. Buses of visitors stopping at the Info Centre were attracted to the displays by local artists and artisans. Some artists sold some of their works, and they all gained valuable exposure for their talents. This new outdoor exhibition was such a vast success that NTAC is considering making it a regular annual or bi-annual event to complement the Art Crawl.

Arts Alive
Arts Alive had its beginning in 2005. Joanne Wright writes:
“Pat Sabiston was taking a picture in my front yard, and we were discussing a new creative technique I wanted to try. We agreed that it would be interesting to take one image and reproduce it in as many mediums as anyone wanted to try. Pat took the idea and ran with it! She was only too happy to let interested local artists pore over her fabulous photos and choose one each year.”
Artists reproduced that picture in any medium and perspective of their choosing. Until 2015, the inspiring interpretations of varied photographs were displayed at the Farmer’s Market on the Saturday closest to Canada Day and then placed in the Library for the following month for continued viewing.
After Pat was no longer with us, Darlene Cowie stepped up to organize the event. Subsequently, the North Thompson Arts Council has carried on this inspiring project, displaying the resulting works at the farmer’s market and the Library as usual. Visitors to the NTAC FaceBook page can view a video of the current collection.
